A very short story that of just 2,690 words, or 11 pages, that packs a lot. PI Brad Foster is hired by an Asst. DA to follow an accused assailant. The problem: The accuser isn’t totally believable, so Foster is to follow the accused and report. Nothing to be used in court, but to get a little bit of a feel for the accused and of the accuser. This one is very serious, a little melancholy, and it may open some scabs for some. Brad Foster is also the main character in “Everything’s Connected,” a much-lighter story also found on this page, and in the novels-in-progress Cursing the Darkness and Remembering James.
Originally published in the now-defunct Over My Dead Body! The Mystery Magazine Online, in August 2015, edited by Cherie Jung. “Everything’s Connected” was, too.
